President Obama has proposed a 1.4 % pay increase for active duty military in 2011. This is the LOWEST since 1973. Nice to know that during a time of rampant inflation, while a war is fought in 2 theatres, our men and women in uniform get a LOWER PAY INCREASE THAN WELFARE RECIPIENTS. – from K.P.L.

When the parasites can vote themselves a bigger bite from the host, they will do so. The law is supposed to protect you and your life from being voted into subservience, but when the law is used instead to steal from a disarmed population, the law has been perverted. Today many people believe the concept of personal responsibility means expecting someone else to pay for you and what you believe you “need.”

Today, the parasites are in control and the parasites have realized they can vote themselves a bigger bite from the host. And the chief parasites in Washington want to maintain control by directing where the rest of the parasites can take their bite based on how you are favored – from the filet portion or the keister.

Colin Powell called for a more centrist Republican party on Tuesday (May 5, 2009). Whether Powell is a dupe or a closet statist isn’t clear yet, but it looks to be the later.

Mr. Powell, when you cave in on principles and on the defense of liberty you lose. Perhaps you didn’t realize you were fighting for the freedom guaranteed by the Constitution, but I suggest you re-read the Founding documents and recall the hard fought battles that were won for liberty.

For the GOP, Freedom is a winning platform. Not since Reagan has the GOP had a candidate who was a staunch defender of Liberty. The GOP has not had a Republican candidate with a core philosophy that really believed in protecting freedom. Republicans have done badly because Bush 41, Dole, Bush 43, and McCain were middle of the road centrists who had no core philosophy. A candidate who wants to win is one who says things like: FREEDOM WORKS; everyone is born free, we do not believe in squandering the liberties for which the Founders fought so hard.

Running as a Statist-Lite or Democrat-Lite is no way to win an election because someone will always be able to outspend you. Every Republican candidate has been the candidate of the establishment, meant to broaden the base of the party. Running as a lite version of someone else will not broaden the base. Standing for freedom is the way to win elections.

A few years ago, Bush was reported to be discussing using some of his political capital on a project which is a losing strategy. When you stand for something you don’t “use” your political capital up. Stating your arguments and defending them clearly won’t “use” up capital, it will create capital. But you have to believe in the principles that the country was founded on and you have to believe that most people want to be free and want the same for their children.

Liberty is an easy sell because most people want it. Vision, a positive attitude, and eloquence will move mountains and demonstrate to the citizens of the United States that there are people who truly care about their freedom. Pragmatism means abandoning citizenship for servitude and principles for power.

Copying another well known hypocrite – Jim Jeffords from Vermont – Arlen Specter abandoned his principles in order to retain power. Well, he never really had principles except being power-hungry, so it was difficult for him to abandon them, but he choose the only route he could to try to maintain his tenuous grip on power but lost his slight remaining grip on reality in the process.

After stating he would not switch parties in a March 17, 2009 interview, today he said he would switch parties:

[Democrats] are trying very hard for the 60th vote. Got to give them credit for trying. But the answer is no. … I am staying a Republican because I think I have an important role, a more important role, to play there. The United States very desperately needs a two-party system. That’s the basis of politics in America. – March 17, 2009

You have to hand it to him, he values POWER over your lives and mine over anything else. Hope he enjoys it for the next 18 months. A disgraceful end to a disgraceful political career.

If you wish to read about Arlen Specter’s opponent, Pat Toomey, you can do so here.

Since the White House seems to be in need of economic advice, here are a few suggestions that would help to turn things around quickly. Items #1 and #2 would not cost anything.

1. Eliminate Mark to Market – for people holding until the asset matures, mark to market is crazy.

2. Reinstate the uptick rule in order to restore some balance to the market.

3. Instead of spending more than $1.2 trillion on questionable projects, much of which won’t be spent for years, stop collecting income taxes for 2009. Federal Revenue in 2007 was approximately $2.5 trillion with individual income taxes making up a bit over 40% of that. So, drop the stimulus and put the money right back in everyone’s pocket this week. Save $200 billion, and let the citizens of the company keep their own money.

4. Talk about some of the positives: lower fuel costs, productivity and the like.

The American Diabetes Association called me today, “not to ask for money.” In the course of the conversation, the lady from the American Diabetes Association said that Obama’s tax increase is ”only going to be about 5%. It’s not that much.”

My mother died of pancreatic cancer and I generally do support charities that deal with diseases of the pancreas (including being on the founding board of PanCan), but since the American Diabetes Association thinks that it is “not that much” they’ll be the ones who realize that the “not that much” comes out of their budget. But since it is “not that much” the American Diabetes Association won’t miss it.

When a charity calls today, this is what I am going to say when they ask for money:

Oh, didn’t you know that we have a new President in Washington? I suggest that now that he has declared that he is the best person to decide who “needs” the money more that you and I call the White House and see if you can beg from them. His tax increases are taking my charitable donations. The choice is simple: vote freedom or statism/socialism.

Now, I’ll still be donating, but it will be to charities that (a) support freedom, and (b) don’t sit at the trough of the federal government claiming handouts from the rest of us at the point of a gun.
